Spend days 1 and 2 in Udaipur itself (City Palace, Jagdish Temple, a Pichola boat, Fateh Sagar and Sajjangarh), day 3 at Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur, day 4 at Chittorgarh, and day 5 on the Eklingji–Nathdwara–Haldighati loop with a last evening on the lake.
Key facts
- Kumbhalgarh: about 85 km, 2.5 hours each way
- Ranakpur: about 95 km, 2 to 2.5 hours
- Chittorgarh: about 115 km, 2 to 2.5 hours
- Nathdwara: about 48 km, 1 hour
Our itineraries page covers one to four days in the city. Five days lets you add the forts and temples that made Mewar famous, without cutting the lakes short. This plan assumes a car with driver for the out-of-town days.
Day 1: The Old City and Lake Pichola
- Morning: Be at the City Palace when it opens, before the tour groups. Allow 2 to 3 hours.
- Late morning: Walk down to Jagdish Temple, then kachori and rabri near the temple steps.
- Afternoon: Rest, then cross the Daiji footbridge to Gangaur Ghat.
- Evening: The sunset boat on Pichola with a stop at Jag Mandir, then the Dharohar dance show at Bagore Ki Haveli at 7 pm.
Day 2: Fateh Sagar, gardens and Sajjangarh
- Morning: Saheliyon Ki Bari, then Moti Magri above Fateh Sagar.
- Midday: Lunch near Fateh Sagar and a coffee on the pal.
- Afternoon: Shilpgram crafts village, 3 km west.
- Sunset: Drive up to Sajjangarh. Last entry is around 5:30 pm, so leave by 4:30 in winter.
Day 3: Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur
Leave by 7:30 am. Walk the ramparts of Kumbhalgarh in the cooler morning, have lunch on the way, and reach Ranakpur after noon, when non-Jain visitors are usually allowed in. Back in Udaipur by 7 to 8 pm. Our one-day plan has exact timings.
Day 4: Chittorgarh
Leave by 7 am for Chittorgarh, the largest fort in India and Mewar’s capital before Udaipur. Hire a guide at the gate. You’ll need 4 to 5 hours inside to see the Vijay Stambh, Padmini’s palace and Kumbha’s palace properly. Return by evening.
Day 5: Eklingji, Nathdwara and Haldighati
- Morning: Darshan at Eklingji, the Maharanas’ family temple, then the carved Saas-Bahu temples at Nagda.
- Midday: Nathdwara for Shrinathji darshan. Check the jhanki times before you leave.
- Afternoon: Haldighati, where Maharana Pratap fought the Mughal army in 1576.
- Evening: Back to the lake. Finish at Ambrai Ghat as the palace lights come on.
Tips for this route
- Phones, cameras and leather aren’t allowed inside Eklingji and Nathdwara. Leave them in the car or the lockers.
- Carry water and a hat; both forts involve long, exposed walks.
- If you only have energy for one fort, choose Kumbhalgarh for scenery or Chittorgarh for history.

Frequently asked questions
Is 5 days enough for Udaipur?
Five days is ideal if you want to see both the city and the great forts and temples of Mewar without rushing. For the city alone, 2 to 3 days is enough.
Do I need a car for this itinerary?
For days 3 to 5, yes. Public buses go to these places but are slow. A car with driver lets you do two sights in one day and return the same evening.
Can I do Kumbhalgarh and Chittorgarh on the same day?
No. They are in opposite directions from Udaipur. Pair Kumbhalgarh with Ranakpur instead.
