The Vintage Car Museum is the royal family of Mewar's collection of classic cars, shown in the old state garage at the Garden Hotel near Gulab Bagh. Tickets are about ₹330 for adults and ₹200 for children, a visit takes about 45 minutes, and the hotel's restaurant serves a simple thali lunch.

What’s inside

The collection belongs to the royal family and is kept in the old state garage at the Garden Hotel. It opened to the public in 2000. Expect around two dozen cars, including:

  • Rolls-Royces from the 1920s and 1930s, some with custom bodies built for royal use.
  • The Cadillac convertible that appeared in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy, much of which was filmed in Udaipur.
  • A Rolls-Royce with a large searchlight, used for royal hunts.
  • Vintage Mercedes, Fords and other classics, plus a solar-powered car from more recent times.

Most cars are still in working order and some are used on royal occasions.

Lunch on site

The Garden Hotel’s restaurant serves a simple, inexpensive vegetarian thali, which is a pleasant lunch after the visit. For more, see our Rajasthani thali guide.

Combine it with

  • Gulab Bagh next door, the city’s largest garden, with a small zoo and toy train.
  • The City Palace, a 10-minute walk away.

It’s one of the best stops for Udaipur with kids, and a good rainy-day plan.
