Known as the City of Lakes, Udaipur is renowned for its festivals, and Gangaur is the most beautiful of them.
For eighteen days after Holi, women worship clay idols of Gauri and Isar. On the final days, decorated idols are carried to Gangaur Ghat on Lake Pichola, followed by bands, horses and crowds in bright leheriya.
The Mewar Festival runs at the same time, with boat processions, folk performances and fireworks over the lake. In 2027, Gangaur falls on 9 April.
